ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is a therapeutic treatment method used to encourage natural healing, reduce or relieve pain and improve function and well-being.  Acupuncture is safe and effective and is often successfully used as an alternative to medication.  Two of our physiotherapists are trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine and use it regulary as a complimentary part of their treatment sessions.  Often used with electrostimulation, our therapists have found acupuncture to be especially helpful with those chronic tennis elbows.  At Performance Physiotherapy and Acupuncture, the painless needles are most commonly used for neck and back conditions with radiating nerve symptoms.  However, acupuncture has many other uses.  Please click on the following link to learn more about acupuncture.

IMS-IntraMuscular Stimulation

Intramuscular Stimulation(IMS) is another needling technique, which is an effective treatment for chronic pain of Neuropathic origin. IMS was developed by Dr. Chan Gunn while he was a clinic physician at the Worker's compensation Board of British Columbia. "Neuropthic pain" describes pain that shows no signs of tissue damage or inflammation, such as headaches, "whiplash", backache, tennis elbow or frozen shoulder. Typically this occurs when nerves malfuction following minor irritation. Nerves and nerve endings become extremely sensitive and cause innocent, harmless signals to be exaggerated and misunderstood as painful ones. This charactersitic is known medically as supersensitivity. The result is pain even when extensive medical tests show there is "nothing wrong". This is where IMS can help.
